Who Attends SAGE?



SAGE accepts applications from qualified undergraduate and graduate students from all over the world, typically majoring in geophysics, geology, physics, math, or a related field. Successful applicants will have a strong background in math and physics (see required coursework below), and will have completed at least their junior year of undergraduate studies prior to the start of the program. Course credit may be available (must be arranged prior to arrival at SAGE and subject to approval of home institution and advisor).


SAGE also welcomes applications from industry professionals, college and university faculty, and postdoctoral fellows seeking professional development opportunities in geophysics.

Required Coursework

  • Minimum of one year (two semesters or three quarters) of college physics (through electricity & magnetism).
  • Minimum of three semesters of calculus (through multivariable calculus), four preferred.
  • Structural geology and introductory geophysics recommended but not required.
